Seeing Nature

In looking at the image of the red mushroom, you begin to notice the blades of grass around it.  It then might occur that given the size of a blade of grass, “little red” here is very small.  Sure its color is going to make it stand out and say “notice me”, but its tiny size could make it easily overlooked.  If someone were with George when he saw this mushroom he might have said, “hey look at this keen little guy”!

Everyday we scurry around in our busy lives.  What are we overlooking?  What are we not seeing?  And how does that affect our lives?  George strongly believed that letting nature’s beauty wash over us is essential to being human and connected to the earth. Trouble is, learning to “see” nature isn’t something one can put on the your list of things to do.  It requires sustained practice, patience, submission.  Gotta let go!!

Waiting, waiting, waiting pays off as visits George’s hand.

So I think George might say, “get out there and find a place to walk or sit with nature (George would probably take a mug of coffee).   Don’t do anything, just observe.  You may be rewarded with watching a bird catch a worm, a tiny flower blooming, or seeing a small toad hop through the grass.  I can hear George saying, “And that’s all there is – the whole shebang”.
