Autumn Leaves are Falling

This Sugar Maple and the Gingko behind it are two of my favorite trees in my neighborhood.

There are only a few weeks in the fall when deciduous trees regale us with their “true” colors. This “limited-run” show is so much more spectacular here in the Midwest, than in my native California. Each year I marvel anew at the sight of their beauty, the scent of the damp leaves, and the sound of crunching through leaves on the sidewalk.

The Gingko tree drops all of its leaves at once, creating a blanket on yellows and golds.

The leaves of the Sugar Maple seem to be in competition as to who can produce the most dazzling display of color.

And one morning you wake up to find the show is over. Standing ovation please, for my favorite Sugar Maple and Gingko!
